In what could be a potential glimpse into the 2011 Academy Awards race, Sophia Coppola’s Somewhere won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival this weekend.

The film, about “a hard-living Hollywood actor who re-examines his life after his 11-year-old daughter surprises him with a visit” looks to be Lost In Translation in Los Angeles at first glimpse. This is not a bad thing.
Quentin Tarantino (the lead judge of the Venice jury) said the choice of Best Film was unanimous amongst the judges.
“This was a film that enchanted us from our first screening,” said Tarantino, “Yet from that first enchanting screening, it grew and grew and grew in both our hearts, in our analysis, in our minds, and in our affections.”
As we exclaimed a few months ago, this should be near the top of your “must see films” in 2010.
