Not to be Debbie Downer, BUT, can you name a comedy sequel that actually is worthy of its predecessor? As much as I loved The Hangover, the fact that a sequel has been made so quickly concerns me. For some reason, comedies don’t work beyond the original. There are no Godfather II’s in the comedy world. Let’s be real.

Here are the few that almost worked:

Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment, Big Top Pee-Wee, House Party 2, Hot Shots Part Deux, Naked Gun 2 1/2

But let me remind you of these other modern “comedic” sequels:

Scary Movie 2, Analyze That, Meatballs 2, European Vacation, Crocodile Dundee 2, 3 Men and a Little Lady, Weekend at Bernies 2, Home Alone 2, Beverly Hills Cop 2, Teen Wolf 2, Arthur 2, Short Circuit 2, Another 48 Hours

All of these films have something in common. The original caught audiences by surprise, made a ton of money, so the studio quickly made a sequel. I challenge you to come up with ANY comedy that has a sequel equal to or better than the original.

After the jump is the first trailer to The Hangover II (Release Date: May 26th, 2011). As you always get with comedy sequels, it’s full of throw back jokes. Tattoo, not the tooth. Monkey, not the baby. But let me be honest here – I WILL be seeing this and I DID laugh at that last water bottle/monkey scene. Yes, I’m part of the problem.
