The Stolen 80′s: The A-Team Movie

(Hi-Res Trailer is Here!)

As a boy in the mid-1980′s, my family would often visit Universal Studios during summertime. It had the famous tram tour, random shows, and various rides. But my heart was set on one thing and one thing only…The A-Team exhibit! Not only would I be able to check out props from one of my favorite TV shows, I also got to take mock pictures of myself lifting up the van. I pitied the fool that rushed me away from that van. It was a dream come true.

Want to know another dream come true? A-Team: The Movie. And I’m not a bit ashamed about it. Thank you Hollywood for your 80′s obsessions…you done good this time.

Cheesy one liners…check. Ridiculous Action…check. Faceman, Hannibal, BA Baracus, and Murdock kicking ass and taking names…quadruple check.

When rumors first surfaced of an A-Team movie, I didn’t think it could be possible. You can cast every role except for the obvious one. Who would fill Mr. T’s* shoes? (*I’ve been looking for ways to insert this video for many months. It’s the best thing on YouTube).   Early rumors had Ice Cube in that role, which was a terrible idea. Scowling itself doesn’t necessarily make you Mr. T. And to fill the role, you need attitude.  So it seems they did the the best they could possibly do — cast a non-actor in Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Those who don’t know who UFC’s Rampage is, you can check out all his knockouts HERE. He’s not pitying any fools in the octagon. The rest of the casting choices were pitch perfect: Bradley Cooper as Face, Liam Neeson (!) as Hannibal, and Sharlto “You Know Me From District-9″ Copley, as Murdock.

When Joe Carnahan (director of the underrated Narc and questionable Smokin’ Aces) became attached to this project, I knew they would head in the right direction. Ridiculous action and a few set pieces is all you really need in an A-Team Movie. It’s simple.

The synopsis is the exact same as the show with one minor change. They replaced Vietnam vets with Iraq War vets:  A group of Iraq War veterans looks to clear their name with the U.S. military, who suspect the four men of committing a crime for which they were framed.

You might be asking yourself “What does the ‘A’ in ‘A-Team’ stand for?”  I’ll let you in on the secret.  AMAZING. AWESOME. ALL should see it on June 11th, 2010.
