Youth In Revolt Trailer

This one seems like it can go either way — horribly bad or really great. We’ve gotta say we like the Francois look on Michael Cera.

“Nick Twisp (Michael Cera) is a cynical sex-obsessed 16-year-old who, while on vacation in a trailer park, meets Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday), an intellectual. But the only things really standing in his way is Sheeni’s poetry-writing,  ex-boyfriend Trent  and his ignorant divorced parents (Steve Buscemi and Jean Smart), and Mom’s boyfriends (Zack Galifianakis and Ray Liotta)”

EXCLUSIVE! Avatar Teaser Trailer

Wow.

Here is the must see Avatar trailer. Imagine it on IMAX. Imagine it in 3-D.  James Cameron is talking up a big game changer for this one. Do you think this has the goods?  This initial footage eerily looks like a Dark Crystal/Apocalypto/Halo/ hybrid.  Hopefully the Avatar Day screening tomorrow (8/21/09) will shed more light into the details of this film.

For up to date details on everything Avatar (and other potentially fantastic films)…continue coming back  to Film Savior!

Check the Apple HD Version HERE

Official Synopsis: Avatar takes us to a spectacular new world beyond our imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. The film was first conceived by James Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, Avatar delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film, disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

QT’s Inglorious Basterds releases 8/21/09.

An always celebrated new film from Tarantino or 15 minutes of Avatar?  It has just been announced, that the “hush-hush” yet highly anticipated Inception will premiere its first teaser trailer before Inglorious Basterds. Inception is the sci-fi inside the mind currently filming across the globe. It will be Christopher Nolan’s first film since The Dark Knight and boasts an impressive cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt , Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine, and others.

Inglorious Basterds: “Nation’s Pride” Fake Viral Trailer

Here is the trailer for “Nation’s Pride”, the movie within the movie of Inglorious Basterds.  The viral video directed by Eli Roth is the main boiling point and activity in IB which revolves around this Nazi propaganda film.  Before you get offended, let’s give the trailer some context:

In Inglorious Basterds, Daniel Bruhl plays the German War hero Fredric Zoller who’s marksmanship work in the war have been turned into a Nazi propaganda film directed by Joseph Goebbels. This is set to play at our protaganists (Shosanna) theater where the set up of the film builds up to.

So basically, this is a trailer of a film within the film. Got it?

Where the Wild Things Are Trailer #2

A new trailer for Where the Wild Things Are was just released.  It shows a ton of new stuff, specifically lots of visuals and dialogue from the Wild Things. We wonder if the kids will recognize Tony Soprano’s voice.

The countdown towards the October release date is on!

Enjoy.

More info on upcoming “Avatar Day”

More details on the previously announced “Avatar Day” on August 21st.

  • The 15 minutes of footage will screen only in 3D at “select cinemas and IMAX theaters.”
  • “Details on locations and reserving tickets for this extraordinary and unprecedented experience will be announced soon.”
  • The worldwide trailer launch will be presented in all formats, including IMAX® 3-D, IMAX® 2-D, digital 3-D, digital 2-D, and 35mm 2-D. The trailer will also be available online.
  • Also on Avatar Day: “Ubisoft will unveil the trailer for their videogame James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, and Mattel will reveal the action figures for the film’sAvatar and alien Na’vi characters.”

But more importantly…will this unique marketing push work? Will audience’s minds be so blown away that they march straight into line for the full December release? And how will this affect the Inglorious Basterds opening weekend? Will it bring more people to the theater who will want to watch a full length picture after 15 short minutes of Avatar? Or will the marketing push for Avatar Day be so loud that audiences forget Quentin Tarantino has a new film opening?

Avatar Day — will President Obama make this a national holiday?

WTWTA Featurette – A Love Letter From Author Maurice Sendak

Wow.

This is exactly what we’ve been waiting for. Here is a 3 minute featurette that intermixes an interview with Where the Wild Things Are author Maurice Sendak and never before seen behind the scenes footage.   Sendak discusses how the book was not well received from the beginning and it took roughly 2 years for it to finally catch on. Sendak has many kind things to say about director Spike Jonze as well:

“What I’ve seen him do, he’s turned ['Wild things'] into his without giving up mine…with embodying mine with Spike Jonze, and astonishingly it maintains its peculiarness as a work, but it flows throughout. The whole thing is such a strange thing. I’ve never seen a movie that looks like this. It’s his personal this. He’s not afraid of himself. He’s a real artist that let’s it come through the work. So he’s touched me very much.”

If this clip doesn’t hit you at an emotional level or make you want to see this ASAP, then you could very well be dead.  Or have a colder heart than Frosty.

National “Avatar” Day — Coming to a Theater Near You

Yesterday during the Avatar panel at Comic-Con, James Cameron made movie geeks across the universe poop their pants: 15 minutes of the film will be screened in digital theaters for free across the globe on August 21. It’s sort of a “put your money where your mouth is scenerio.”

_12483992012621

Cameron’s complete announcement:

We’re going to do something unprecedented. It’s a social marketing experiment. We’re going to take over as many IMAX 3D theaters and other select 3D theaters worldwide on August 21 and we’re going to let an international global audience come see 15 minutes of Avatar for free. It’s going to be Avatar day.

Will this “social experiment” help create buzz around the film and 3-D in general? James Cameron keeps calling it a game breaker, so we’ll see.  And how will this 8/21 date affect the opening of Inglorious Basterds (same day)? Time will tell….

First Look: Where The Wild Things Are Game

There was a depression rolling through the Film Savior headquarters. Almost an entire week has gone by with no new WTWTA updates.  But look what fell into our laps…the first look at the video game!

We got the chance to sample this game back in June at E3. Although a bit underwhelming, this game will be great for kids. The basic premise of the game is the user gets to don Max’s wolf suit as he arrives at Wild Things island on his boat. The young boy battles terrible creatures, befriends the mythological Wild Things, and eventually becomes king of the island in the course of his adventure. All is not well, however, as Max is soon burdened with the duty of leading the Wild Things to safety of their island which is doomed for destruction.

WildThingsgame

The game is releasing for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, and the DS in October.

Review: (500) Days of Summer

(500) Days of Summer

Directed by Marc Webb

Written by Scott Neustadter & Michael Weber

Release date (limited): July 17th, 2009

FS Verdict: Skip the nerdy wizard in glasses, support this great film! Highly recommended.

As you may have noticed here at Film Savior, there are a few movies that we have a ton of hope for. We read the script, follow their every casting choice, virtually go in the trenches when filming, and analyze the marketing campaign. (500) Days of Summer is the first release of our 7 “obsessions” in 2009.  Luckily, it lived up to the hype and did not disappoint. One for one!

I feel bad whenever a film like this comes around. It’s trying to tell a story in a unique and original way. But everyone feels the need to find a label to stamp on it. Quirky. Indie. Romantic Comedy.  (500) Days of Summer is none of these things. And all of these things.  Which is one of many reasons that I highly recommend it. It has the sarcasm and wit of Woody Allen’s Manhattan and Annie Hall while invoking the warmth and fun of a Cameron Crowe film.

“I think the key is for me to figure out what went wrong. Do you ever do this? Go back and think about all the things you did together. Everything that happened. Replay it over again in your mind, looking for the first sign of trouble.”  — Tom Hansen (Joseph Gordon-Levitt)
