Trailer #2: Green Lantern

Comic-Con’s little brother, Wondercon, happened this past weekend in San Francisco. At the event, Warner Brothers was determined to make up for the horrendous Green Lantern trailer spewed upon us a month back. It hit all the wrong tones, the CGI wasn’t completed — it was a hot mess.  In a crowded comic book summer, WB hammered the first nail into their own coffin.

Wondercon was their chance to hit the reset button. If you heard those rumblings across the globe last weekend, it was the 4 minutes of Green Lantern footage released upon the nerds in San Fran. Upon viewing the below “trailer”, fanboys ran through the streets gouging at their eyes in excitement.

“It…is…so…GREEN…and beautiful” sobbed a bearded fat man sporting a Batman Returns t-shirt.

“I’m gay for Ryan Reynolds!” exclaimed another aimless nerd.

Be careful with the following four minutes of footage. You too might lose your shit.  My unsolicited opinion – If it ain’t Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Batman films, I’ve continued to be unimpressed. We’re told that we should be excited for these movies. But is anyone really all that excited for this crap? This summer, we’re getting the “C” level comic books presented as “A” level: Thor, Captain America, and Green Lantern. PUH-LEEZE. These guys couldn’t hold Christian Bale’s 10 pound jockstrap.

After the jump, you’ll see a reasonably enticing trailer for Green Lantern. It might actually give you pause and think about seeing this. I just don’t feel this was made for the masses as advertised. This seems to be aimed directly at the heart of the fanboys. With the fanboy box office failures of Kick-Ass, Scott Pilgrim, and Paul, this seems like an ill-advised move. I, for one, am no longer going to be swayed by admittedly cool marketing tricks as you’ll see below. Amazing trailer does not equate good movie. See Battle:LA or Sucker Punch for proof.
