Everyone Can Rest Easy: Avatar Tickets On Sale

We can fully admit, this Avatar pre-hype is getting out of hand.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, tickets for the “game changer” from James Cameron are already on sale at Fandango.com and Movietickets.com.  The film is released on December 18th, so this sale is 4 months early.  Cameron and the Fox team are really setting audiences up for bitter, angry disappointment. Nothing can live up to this type of hype.

“Audiences are hungry for fresh fare with original storytelling,” Fandango spokesman Harry Medved said. “And with ‘Avatar,’ you have no idea where the story is going to go.”

We really have no idea where this story is going to go. But if the movie geek mobs have their way, this story might be burned at the stake before it’s even released.

The Wolfman Trailer

Back in 6th grade I had a friend that we nicknamed “The Wolfman.”  He had arm and leg hair that put Robin Williams to shame.

So Eddie, this trailer is for you.

An Avatar Fireside Chat

10 rows from the front and directly in the center. That’s where I sat on Avatar Day’s IMAX 3-D screening.  James Cameron declared to the world that Avatar would be a “game changer” and I was about to witness firsthand the game being changed. The theater was giddy with excitement, but surprisingly not entirely packed.

But let’s take a step back.  Two days prior to Avatar Day, the teaser trailer for Avatar was released. I could not load up the Apple HD video fast enough. In just a few moments, history would be make sweet love to my eyes. The Wizard of Oz showcased glorious technicolor.  The Jazz Singer let us hear dialogue for the first time on film. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? made me believe Bob Hoskins really talked to cartoon characters.  And Avatar would change the movie going experience forever.  At least that’s what I was told.  High expectations for a film are a double edged sword.  On one side, it’s a great thing. There is huge audience awareness. People have pre-conceived notions that something will be great. And the pre-release buzz might mute and bad press. On the flip side, the entire world is eager to prove these expectations to be wrong.  And an above average film might be judged unfairly. But I digress…

The video starts to play and my virginity is taken away. And so I watch it again. When the trailer ends after the second viewing, I was alarmed by something.  My life didn’t change. My eyeballs were still intact.  As one Nebraskan friend told me “That looks like three hours of my life I’m never going to get back…(and) to be honest, the colors are pretty, reminds me of World Of Warcraft…I’ll pass on this one.”

Basterds Poster

A quick question.

Why the hell wasn’t this sweet poster plastered all over the country for Inglorious Basterds promo?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Inception Teaser Trailer

So there I was in the movie theater, munching on popcorn and playing Brickbreaker on the Blackberry.  In only a few short minutes, I’d finally see Quentin Tarantino’s latest film…something I’ve obsessed about since reading the script last summer.  It was Avatar Day and Inglorious Basterds opening day, but I suddenly realized (again) that it was also the trailer release of the secret little film called Inception. When the Warner Bros. logo appeared, I squealed and clapped like a little girl catching a live glimpse of the Jonas Brothers. It was here…

The trailer has about 15 seconds of actual film footage, but it’s a teaser that will make you curse the release date (Summer 2010).  For those who saw The Dark Knight in IMAX, you are probably still haunted by the Hans Zimmer pounding, screeching score throughout the film.  It kept you on the edge of your seats as it boomed throughout.  Zimmer has teamed up with Christopher Nolan (TDK) again, so please turn up the volume when watching this teaser.  I feel that the full effect of this teaser will not be felt through your computer screen, but at least you’ll get an idea of how wacked out cool this film might be.

Inception boasts an impressive cast alongside a superstar director.  Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine, Tom Berenger, Lukas Haas, and Ken Watanabe.

My initial reaction to the trailer went straight to thoughts of The Matrix.  But it’s a psychological thriller, NOT a CGI heavy tentpole event.  Enjoy and expect to hear lot’s o’ news on this one as it’s one of our 2010 Obsessions.

Youth In Revolt Trailer

This one seems like it can go either way — horribly bad or really great. We’ve gotta say we like the Francois look on Michael Cera.

“Nick Twisp (Michael Cera) is a cynical sex-obsessed 16-year-old who, while on vacation in a trailer park, meets Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday), an intellectual. But the only things really standing in his way is Sheeni’s poetry-writing,  ex-boyfriend Trent  and his ignorant divorced parents (Steve Buscemi and Jean Smart), and Mom’s boyfriends (Zack Galifianakis and Ray Liotta)”

EXCLUSIVE! Avatar Teaser Trailer

Wow.

Here is the must see Avatar trailer. Imagine it on IMAX. Imagine it in 3-D.  James Cameron is talking up a big game changer for this one. Do you think this has the goods?  This initial footage eerily looks like a Dark Crystal/Apocalypto/Halo/ hybrid.  Hopefully the Avatar Day screening tomorrow (8/21/09) will shed more light into the details of this film.

For up to date details on everything Avatar (and other potentially fantastic films)…continue coming back  to Film Savior!

Check the Apple HD Version HERE

Official Synopsis: Avatar takes us to a spectacular new world beyond our imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. The film was first conceived by James Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, Avatar delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film, disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

Prepare to be blown away: Inception Set Pics

OK, as great as Inception could potentially be, we still have no clue what it is about. All we know is that it revolves around a “CEO-type becomes involved in a blackmailing scandal” and that it’s set in “the architecture of the mind.”  Things that make you go, Hmmmm.  Justjared found some exclusive set pictures yesterday, and they will blow your mind. A picture of Leonardo DiCaprio standing on a bridge! Ellen Page standing on the street! These set pictures are just oozing with excitement.  One thing that IS truly exciting is the trifecta of Inception teaser trailer before Inglorious Basterds on Avatar Day.

District 9 Review

District 9

Directed by Neil Blomkamp

Written by Neil Blomkamp & Terri Tatchell

Released: August 14, 2009

FS Verdict: Mockumentary meets sci-fi and the results will knock you off your seat. Amazing film experience, skip GI Joe and Time Traveler’s Wife and go see it!

Summer 2009 started with Star Trek and Terminator: Salvation.  One month later we got Transformers 2.  Tucked away in the hundreds of millions of marketing dollar madness was another science fiction film: District 9. Star Trek was great, kudos to JJ Abrams. But Terminator and Transformers made me question my movie going experiences. Do these studios really think the audience is this stupid with these terrible films? Looking at the worldwide gross of these films, I’m guessing the answer is “yes”. District 9 has managed to quietly sneak into the theaters this weekend with a modest 30 million dollar budget.  It also managed to possibly salvage a mediocre summer of movies. District 9 is an audience pleaser on all levels.  You’ll laugh, you’ll squirm, you will be on the edge of your seat.  Director Neil Blomkamp in his debut will no longer be an unknown.  Peter (Lord of the Rings) Jackson wisely has a “Presented By” credit in this film. He obviously saw the talent in Blomkamp that needed to be unleashed on the masses.  Continue reading “District 9 Review” »
